This is the part of the claim that you agree to pay per person. This is limited to two excess amounts per trip, even if more than two insured persons are claiming.

With the exception of Gadget cover, the excess does not apply to Premier cover, or to insured persons for whom the Excess waiver upgrade has been purchased.

Excess amounts are detailed in your quote and in your policy booklet. You should check and be aware of these before you purchase.

Full details of your policy and level of cover will be available in your Policy Booklet and Certificate - please refer to these documents.

                                                  Middle East conflict

The information below is a general guide for customers who are impacted by the current events affecting travel to and from the Middle East.

If you are unable to return home as planned due to the conflict and your trip will exceed the maximum trip limit on your policy, we will extend your cover period for free until you can do so. You do not need to contact us to extend the duration of your trip as this will be standard for all customers who have been unable to return home from the affected areas.

If you are in the affected area, please continue to follow the advice of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), local authorities and your airline or tour operator. The FCDO website also allows you to 'Register your Presence' to receive direct updates - Foreign Office travel advice updates - GOV.UK.

If you have not yet travelled and cannot because of this conflict, for example, if your operator/carrier has cancelled your flight, please contact your tour operator or travel provider for a full refund. If your travel company cannot refund your money, you may be able to ask them to rearrange your holiday destination or date.

You have Consumer Protection cover if your travel arrangements were purchased using a credit card and cost £100 or more. You may also request a chargeback from your bank if you purchased your travel arrangements by Debit card. In this instance, contact your bank or credit card issuer as an alternative avenue for a refund.

If you choose to cancel your trip of your own accord, your policy will not cover you for any cancellation costs that you could incur. Please refer to your policy wording document for details of the cover provided.

If you have bought a single trip policy and you would like to travel to another destination or on another date, please contact our Customer Services team on 0345 030 6124 (Monday to Friday – 8.30am to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm) so that the appropriate changes can be made for you. An additional premium may be payable for any increase in trip duration or change in destination country.

Our travel insurance policies contain a general exclusion relating to war and similar events. This exclusion states that the policy does not cover:

"Any consequence of war, invasion, act of a foreign enemy, hostilities (whether war is declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, or military or usurped power."

As a result, where claims arise directly or indirectly from these types of events, cover under the policy may be limited or not available.

This means that if your claim is connected to the ongoing conflict, it is likely that the above exclusion will apply. Any claim not relating to the conflict will be considered based on the specific circumstances in line with the terms and conditions of your policy. If you need to make a claim, please contact our Claims Team who will be happy to help. You can register your claim online here at https://allianz-protection.com (submit online 24 hours a day) or call the team on 0345 641 9751 (call Monday to Friday – 9am to 5pm) As you’d expect we are experiencing unprecedented levels of calls, so answer times might be longer than usual.

If you have not yet purchased Travel Insurance, it is important to note that Tesco Travel Insurance does not provide cover if you are purchasing insurance to travel to a country where the FCDO is advising against all but essential travel. Please see the FCDO website for current advice about the specific country you are travelling to.

If you need help in a medical emergency, you can call our helpline 24/7 on +44 0208 603 9752.
