Multi pet insurance is a way to save money when you insure more than one pet with the same provider. You can take out cover for a mix of different pets, like cats and dogs, and you’ll get a discount for each one.
Multi pet insurance isn’t always a single policy. With some providers, like Tesco Pet Insurance, each pet has its own policy and cover. That’s why it’s also called a multi pet discount.
When you buy multi pet insurance, you’re usually just buying pet insurance for more than one pet. So it covers the same things as insuring only one cat or dog.
With our Pet Insurance, you can choose from 3 types of policy for each pet: Lifetime Pet Insurance, Maximum Benefit or Time Limited. So each pet can have a different level of cover.
You’ll get a £12 discount for each pet when you insure more than one with Tesco Pet Insurance.
Here’s how it works:
Please note, terms and conditions apply.
If you choose Tesco Pet Insurance, a multi pet discount can mean cheaper cover and more convenience.
With Tesco Pet Insurance, each of your pets will have its own policy. And insuring more than one cat or dog with us means you’ll get a discount for each one.
Your premium still depends on your cat or dog’s age, breed and health, plus the level of cover you choose for each pet. But it’ll work out cheaper with a multi pet discount than insuring all your pets separately.
What’s more, you’ll also save money with your Clubcard.

As pets get older, they’re unfortunately more likely to get ill. That’s why your renewal price increases each year and your excess will increase when your pet turns a certain age (5 or 8 years old for a dog, depending on the breed, and 10 for a cat).
A claim being paid increases the likelihood of future claims. In turn, this may cause your renewal price to increase. That increase will depend on your pet’s breed, age, and health. With this being the case, there is no limit to how much your renewal price can increase over time.
Find out what you need to do - and what to expect - when you make a claim. You can keep track of your claim through Your Pet Portal.
Yes. Each pet has its own policy. You can take out a new policy for another pet at any time, and you'll get a £12 discount on each additional policy. The minimum discount is £24 for 2 pets.
No. With Tesco Pet Insurance, you can choose a different level of cover for each pet, depending on their needs.

No. Each pet is insured separately. If you claim for one of your pets, it won't affect the discount or cover for the others.

It's important to budget for increases to your policy as your pet gets older. Your premiums are likely to go up each year - there's no limit to how much they can go up, and the increase could be significant for you each year and over the policy's lifetime.
Sadly, as cats and dogs get older, they're more likely to get ill. That's why:
How much your premium goes up depends a number of things, including your pet's breed, age and health. And there's no limit to how much your renewal price can go up over time. If a claim's paid out on your policy, your premium could more than double at renewal.
Your Tesco Clubcard data
We'll search our records for your Tesco Clubcard number. If you have a Clubcard, we may access and use information from it (including your name, address and details about your transactions). This'll help us, and your insurer, to assess your premium - but don't worry, it'll only be used to make a positive impact on your premium.

Pre-existing conditions that won't be covered include:
Our policies do not cover pre-existing conditions. It's important we know of any conditions and/or symptoms your pet's suffering from or has suffered from in the past before you take out a policy. Failure to tell us about any pre-existing conditions may affect future claims and your policy.
If your pet goes missing, all our pet insurance policies will cover your local advertising and reward costs up to £1,000. If the worst happens, and your cat or dog isn't found within 30 days, we’ll also cover the amount you paid or donated for your pet when you bought them, up to a value of £1,500.
Conditions and exclusions apply, so it's best to check the policy documents to find out exactly what you're covered for.
All of our policies provide cover for repeat or emergency treatment when travelling with your pet abroad, as long as you're travelling in line with government guidelines.
You should check the latest government advice on taking your pet abroad before you plan your trip.
