With our uninsured driver promise, you’ll get guaranteed protection if your car’s hit by an uninsured driver.
It means:
If you have Tesco Car Insurance, our uninsured driver promise is included as standard with our Silver and Gold comprehensive Car Insurance policies.
If you make a claim for an accident caused by an uninsured driver, we’ll refund your excess and reinstate your No Claims Discount. As long as you give us:
You might have to pay the excess while we investigate your claim. And you might lose your No Claims Discount then as well. But we'll refund your excess and reinstate your No Claims Discount if we approve your claim.
You won’t be covered by our uninsured driver promise if we can’t:
Our uninsured driver promise isn’t included with Bronze cover.
According to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), there’s over 1 million uninsured vehicles on UK roads each year*.
There are different reasons why drivers might not have insurance. They might not realise they're not insured to drive different cars, for example. Or they might want to avoid paying for it.
Not having car insurance can put other road users in danger. It can cause insurance premiums to go up. And it could leave you out of pocket if you need to claim for repairs.
Our uninsured driver promise can help if your car’s hit by an uninsured driver and you need to make a claim.

If your car’s hit by another vehicle, make sure everyone in your car is safe. After that, there’s a few things you need to do.
First, report the incident to the police, if you need to. And to your insurer as soon as possible.
1. Make sure you get the other driver's details before they leave the scene. That includes:
2. Ask for the names and addresses of any witnesses that saw the accident happen.
Once we’ve checked the details of the accident, and approved your claim, we’ll refund your excess and reinstate your No Claims Discount.
Never apologise or say you’re sorry to the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident. If you do, it could look like you’re admitting you were at fault.
Tesco Car Insurance is arranged and administered by Tesco Insurance and is underwritten by Tesco Underwriting Ltd.
You'll find complete details of the cover, monetary limits, exclusions, excesses and terms in our policy documents.
