Find out when you should review your home insurance. And what to tell us about if things have changed.

You should review your home insurance policy whenever your circumstances change. That could be a life event or something as simple as buying new furniture for the house.
These things can affect your cover. So you shouldn’t leave it until your insurance renewal to tell us about them.
If you have Tesco Home Insurance, tell us about a change when it happens. And make sure you give us accurate and up-to-date information when you come to renew your policy.
Letting us know about changes in your circumstances helps us to keep your cover up to date. And avoids problems if you need to make a claim.
These changes can affect your buildings insurance, contents insurance or combined cover. Tell us about them, and we’ll check your cover’s still right for you.
Your marital status can affect your policy, so tell us if it changes.
The job you do can also affect your cover, so let us know if that changes.
Tell us before you move, so we can update your policy.
You can update your address online in Your Insurance Account.
You’ll find instructions on how to do it in our Your Insurance Account FAQs.
Let us know if there’s a change to the number of adults and children living at home.
If you have a child at university, our contents insurance provides cover while they're living away.
This includes:
Bear in mind, there are some things we don’t cover. Including:
When you cover your contents with us, you’ll get an extra £7,500 of contents cover for special events. Including weddings, births and religious holidays.
Let us know before building work starts - some projects can affect your cover.
To learn more, see our guide - Home insurance during renovations - what to tell your insurer.
Buying new things, or having more stuff in your house, might mean you need more contents insurance.
Tesco Contents Insurance comes with flexible contents cover. That means your contents sum insured can be tailored to suit you - with cover of up to £50,000, £75,000 or £100,000.
If you’ve got a bike, our Bicycle Cover add-on could help to give you extra protection if you have Tesco Contents Insurance.
Although common, working from home can affect your home insurance. Make sure you tell us:
Sharing the details with us means we can make sure you’ve got the right cover.
You don't need to tell us about any administrative, clerical or childminding work you do at home or in any building that’s part of your property. As long as there are no additional employees.
For more information on working from home, see our guide - Working from home insurance.
Tell us about changes to how long your home is occupied and who else lives there.
Leaving your home unoccupied can affect your cover. So it’s important to let us know if either of these apply:
Returning home regularly to check on the progress of building work doesn’t count as your home being occupied.
If you take in a lodger or start renting out your home, it could affect your cover, so we need to know about it.
Tesco Home Insurance doesn’t typically include lodgers as part of your family. That means their personal belongings won’t be covered by your home insurance policy. If you have a lodger, they could consider our Contents Insurance for renters to help protect the things they own.
Tell us about any security measures you put in place - or take away.
Tesco Home Insurance includes everything you own in the house, garage, shed and garden. So tell us if anything changes.
These things can affect rebuild costs and the risk associated with your property. Share the details with us as soon as you make plans to install them.
If you’ve bought a second property, it’s important to let us know.
If you get any criminal convictions, or you’re forced to declare yourself bankrupt, you need to tell us about it. These situations can affect your policy.
Let us know if you need to change your personal, payment or policy details. Or if you need extra help to manage your policy.
Make sure you keep your contact number and email address up to date, so we can stay in touch with you about your policy.
You can update your contact details online in Your Insurance Account.
You’ll find instructions on how to do it in our Your Insurance Account FAQs.
You can change your payment method or bank details when you renew your policy. Give us a call when you get your renewal invite and we’ll update the details for you.
Get in touch if you want to add or remove a joint policyholder. Or you can make the change yourself online. Remember: a joint policyholder can do everything the main policyholder can do - apart from cancel the policy.
You can update or add a joint policyholder online in Your Insurance Account.
You’ll find instructions on how to do it in our Your Insurance Account FAQs.
If you have money worries, a disability, or need to do things differently, tell us how we can help.
We can make it easier for you to deal with us, with whatever you have to deal with.
Most people think about their cover at renewal. It’s the perfect time to complete a home insurance review, if you haven’t already done so during the year.
You’ll usually get your renewal invite around 28 days before your policy ends.
Find out how it works in our guide - Your home insurance renewal explained.
