Learn more about our Contents Insurance

If you rent a flat or house, your landlord will probably take care of any problems with the building you live in. But what about the things that matter to you?

Whether it’s your console, gaming PC, laptop, hair straighteners, tablet or phone, it’s worth thinking about how you can protect them in case something goes wrong.

      Our Contents cover for renters

Our Contents Insurance covers you for theft or damage to your things if something happens to them in the home you’re renting. If the worst happens, and your house isn’t fit to live in, we’ll pay for you to stay somewhere else until it gets sorted.

Our Contents cover is flexible, so you can take it with you if you move home.

You don’t need to have contents cover by law in the UK, but it can help you protect the stuff that’s important to you. And it might even be a condition of your rental agreement.

Contents Insurance for tenants and renters

If you rent your home, our Contents Insurance can help you repair or replace the things you own if anything happens to them. We make it simple with one level of cover that’s suitable for most homes. Here’s a rundown of what we cover.

Accidental damage to TVs, laptops and tablets

Whether it’s a spilt drink or a bit of clumsiness, a split second is all it takes for your gadgets to go kaput.

We’ll cover the cost of repairs for accidental damage to TVs, tablets, consoles or laptops, so you can get back to work, playing games or watching your favourite shows asap.

                  Tenants Liability Cover

Tenants Liability covers you for accidental damage to your landlord’s property, so your deposit doesn’t need to be used to pay for repairs.

Tesco Contents Insurance comes with Tenants Liability up to £10,000, so you get all the protection you need when you’re renting.

We’ll cover damage to the structure of your building, fixtures, fittings and interior decorations.

                          Home office equipment

If you have a home office and use it for admin, clerical or child-minding work, your office equipment and furniture - including your computer, printer and scanner - will be covered up to £10,000.

                            Special events

We’ll give you extra contents cover worth £7,500 during special events, like weddings, Christmas and other religious holidays. And you won’t have to do a thing, it’ll happen automatically.

Things you own in your garden

The garden’s part of your home. That’s why we give you cover up to £1,500 for anything you own outdoors - from garden furniture and barbecues to the clothes on the washing line.

Monetary levels, excesses and exclusions apply. For full details of cover and exclusions, please check the policy documents.

You can add these optional extras for an additional premium, so your cover meets your individual needs.

                                      Extended accidental damage

You'll get our standard cover, plus protection against things like:

                                      • Knocking over a vase when you're dusting
                                      • Ruining your sofa with an accidental wine spill
                                      • Spilling paint on your carpet when you're decorating

Cover for the things you take everywhere with you

Our Contents Insurance doesn’t just cover your things in the place you’re renting. If you’re a tenant or renter, you can protect your prized possessions - like a necklace, handbag or a set of golf clubs - from loss, theft or damage while you're away from home.

For personal belongings valued at under £2,000, you can choose additional cover of between £1,000 and £10,000.

If you normally carry or wear anything worth £2,000 or more when you're out and about, you can tell us about it when you arrange your contents cover. That way, you’ll know that any item you specify - whether it’s your engagement ring, your watch or camera - is protected.

You can cover as many specified items you like, as long as:

                                      • No single item is worth more than £20,000
                                      • The total value of your specified items isn't more than £20,000

You'll be covered wherever you are in the UK (including in the house you rent), and for up to 60 days when you're abroad.

                                        Bicycle cover

If you rely on your bike to get to work, go on rides in your spare time or on family days out, you might want help to protect your bike.

Our optional bicycle cover gives you and your family cover for lost, stolen or damaged bikes wherever you are in the UK, and for up to 60 days when you're abroad - up to £3,000 per bike, and up to £5,000 in total.
